The Japan Society of Histochemistry
and Cytochemistry |
Histochemistry and cytochemistry
are techniques for biochemical, biophysical, and molecular analysis
of the functional components of tissues and cells in which the data
have been obtained by light and electron microscopes. The Japan Society
of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry has made of significant contribution
for the development of new histochemical and cytochemical methods. The
spectacular achievements in modern molecular cell biology and immunology,
such as establishment of monoclonal antibody techniques have facilitated
histochemical and cytochemical researches to a high extent. In addition,
with the progression of human genome project, a variety of DNA probes
for hybridization experiments become available to detect and localize
mRNA in tissues and cells. Next to these achievements, the recent progression
in instrumentation for cytophotometry, including confocal and other
scanning probe microscopies, and computerized image processing for data
analysis, allow more easily the approach and solution of many histochemical
and cytochemical topics. Besides the fundamental investigations, many
contributions present to clinical applications including cytogenic analysis
of malignancies, cell kinetics hematology and cytodianosis.
The 10th International
Congress of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry was held in Kyoto from
August 18-23, 1996. This Congress provided us the most recent achievement
of histochemical and cytochemical techniques and their applications
in clinical medicine, and cell and molecular biology.
The Japan Society of Histochemistry
and Cytochemistry, founded in 1968, is a leading academic society with
world wide reputation in the field of histochemistry and cytochemistry.
More than 1,500 scientists, who study fundamental and clinical medicine,
and cell and molecular biology, belong to the Society. The Society organizes
a general meeting and a workshop for histochemical and cytochemical
techniques every year. Acta Histochemica et Cytochemical is the official
journal of the Society and apprearing bimonthly.
The Society welcomes you
all who are interested in the histochemistry and cytochemistry.
