President's Message

What is the raison d'être of the Resources Processing Society of Japan?

  As president of The Resources Processing Society of Japan (RPSJ), I will work hard in cooperation with all the members in order to activate RPSJfs operation.

  Concerning about the history of RPSJ, the successive presidents introduced from a variety of aspects including the denomination transition. Finally, our society was named gThe Resources Processing Society of Japanh to agree with the circumstances and needs encompassing nowadays environmental problems.

  In spite of the change in the denomination, the essence of RPSJ is never changed. The accomplishment in various research fields published/presented in our journal, annual meetings and symposiums are applied to the fundamental technology of resource purification engineering and environmental protection.

  Let me talk about governmental budget supporting for the promotion of research, strategies of elements and rare metals being stood out as key words. I understand the importance of valuable resource security.

  I favor the frameworks ofh Urban Minehand gReserve to Stock (R to S)has ways to secure resources. More specifically, hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles which discharge less/no CO₂, are absolutely environmentally friendly productions. As my opinion, the issue of securing the raw materials for batteries such as lithium cells and nickel-hydrogen cells are ignored deliberately.

  Unless doing the recycling, Japanese industries have no future. This is so-called h2015 problem.h gStrategies of Elementsh and gUrban Mineh tell us that it is necessary to recycle rare metals and other valuable elements by using pyrometallurgical or hydrometallurgical technologies. I believe that RPSJ has a role and responsibility in this and related fields.

  Many societies have the same serious issues which are the decreases in the number of members and contribution of manuscripts. RPSJ conducts the publication of journal gRESOURCES PROCESSINGh quarterly, taking place of annual meeting and symposium in half term as an RPSJ main activity. Also as my opinion, there are some necessity to review the planning of annual meetings and symposiums, the increase in the number of new members, creating a massive website in Japanese and English, and making RPSJ be a public-service corporation. I will take over the good traditional points and deliberate upon deficiency of RPSJ.

  Aiming at publication of the full contented journals, RPSJ started to record our journals on J-STAGE which is one of the database of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) from 4 years ago, and applied to JST for carrying archives. After being refereed by JST archive committee, gRESOURCES PROCESSINGh was adopted to be carried on website.

  Here is another challenge. It is the preparation for recording gRESOURCES PROCESSINGh on ISI Web of Science, Thomson Scientific. Web of Science is highly evaluated and canonical internationally. We made a great effort to fix the style of page formation such as font, size and representation in English for Figures, Tables and references. Making efforts does not always bear a fruit, but what is the importance is the process up to be refereed. I do appreciate for all the membersf understanding and great help in this process. This issue is under examination by Thomson Scientific now.

  I do welcome to your new ideas and opinions as an opened society. I would like to make RPSJ as an active and highly evaluated society. I believe that RPSJfs operation and activity are given by all the members and board membersf understanding and collaboration. I truly appreciate you in advance of your great help.
