The aim of the society is to contribute to the development of science by providing a means for eminent researches regarding theories and practical applications of biotechnology to be disseminated through all individuals holding interests in this field.

History

1923 Established as the Osaka Brewing Society.

1962 Renamed as the Society of Fermentation Technology, Japan.

1992 Renamed as the Society for Fermentation and Bioengineering, Japan.

1999 Renamed as the Society for Bioscience and Bioengineering.

2002 80th anniversary

2003 Renamed as the Society for Biotechnology, Japan


Activities

(1)Publishes the society's official Journals (Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering and a Japanese journal, Seibutsu-kogaku Kaishi) and other scientific books.
(2)Holds scientific meetings and symposiums.
(3)Maintains contact and cooperates with other related societies both within Japan and overseas.
(4)Encourages research and presents awards for research findings, etc.
(5)Ensures the future of basic scientific research by providing training and development opportunities for students and young investigators, and by keeping the Japanese public informed on the importance of biotechnology.
(6)Carries out other necessary activities involved in achieving the goals mentioned above.
